Policies, Requirements & Agreement
Suburban Paws Boarding Policies & Requirements
1. Vaccination Requirements: Rabies, Distemper & Parvovirus & Bordetella vaccines are required & proof of current vaccinations is required prior to boarding. Although the bordetella vaccine will not prevent your dog from getting kennel cough (it is caused by a wide variety of bacterial & viral agents, only one of which is the Bordetella bronchiseptica bacteria which does not provide protection from them all) if contracted, the vaccine will lessen & shorten the symptoms. Most episodes of kennel cough are not serious & resolve without treatment. Puppies & immunocompromised pets are most susceptible to Kennel Cough.
2. Flea & Tick Meds Requirement: All dogs/cats must be on YEAR ROUND flea & tick preventative & be free of worms or other transmissible parasites to be accepted for boarding. If a pet is found to have any of these they will be treated at their owner's expense.
3. Health Requirement: Please ensure pets are in good health with no contagious conditions before boarding.
4. Temperament Requirement: I only accept dogs that are social & enjoy the company of other dogs. Aggressive or anti-social dogs are not a good fit for this type of environment. I can not accept dogs with aggressive behaviors or dogs who suffer from severe separation anxiety. You may choose to utilize our home visit service; I can recommend a facility that will board your dog or you may locate one on your own.
5. Spay/Neuter Requirement: Pets must be spayed/neutered by 9 months of age as not altering pets increases the risk of behaviors such as aggression, dominance, marking & mounting that can lead to fights &/or injuries. THIS IS FOR ALL DOGS SAFETY. Some exceptions may apply depending on circumstances.
6. Contracting Illness: Certain vaccinations only protect against severe symptoms of illness such as Bordetella. There is always a possibility in a boarding environment of contracting colds, kennel cough &/or other viruses not covered by vaccines.
7. Size/Temperament/Limits: I care for dogs of various sizes & breeds. Dogs are grouped by size & temperament. Due to space limitations I cannot accommodate giant breeds.
8. Dirty Dogs: Dogs get outdoor & indoor playtime & may get dirty. If this presents a problem, please inquire about grooming.
9. Injuries: There are inherent risks when dealing with animals who behave on instinct. Dogs mingle only when supervised. All dogs are screened for aggression, but fights can & will still occur even with non-aggressive dogs. Every dog has the potential to bite - if & when depends on their bite threshold. There is also inherent roughhousing in play & the possibility for injury to occur during play sessions. If you prefer for your dog not to socialize with other pets – you must inform us ahead of time.
10. Veterinary Care: If your pet becomes injured/ill, I will use reasonable discretion in seeking veterinary care, administering medicine, or providing necessary care to your pet. Owner shall pay all expenses. I reserve the right to take pets to any veterinarian I choose for treatment.
11. Medication: Please provide any medication pets need during their stay labeled with dosage/instructions.
12. Food: Please provide pet's food in SEALED STORAGE labeled with name & instructions
13. Personal items:
NO BEDS (blankets or items of clothing are acceptable)
NO BOWLS
LABEL ALL BELONGINGS with name & instructions. Please bring food in sealed ziplocs or containers with name & feeding instructions. We have all the clean beds, blankets, toys & dinnerware they will need. Please help us conserve space!
